Engagement Bash!

Our engagement party was on the 29th November 2003. Start time was 6:30pm but we were fashionably late! Of course, it would have been okay if everything had been set up, but no. We rushed in in a mad panic, spent the next 20 minutes or so frantically setting up and organising, much to the amusement of the early and on-time guests. Turned out okay, though!

Then to the real important stuff, greeting our guests. Not entirely sure if I managed to say hello to everyone, it's all such a blur. During all this people kept whisking us off for photos which meant I couldn't keep track of where I was, much less who I was with. ;) Oh, and has anyone seen my fiance?

I did manage to pin him down for a second to get a quick dance and discovered that through slight inebriation any salsa moves were beyond him. I grumbled a bit and conceded that we'd have to stick to merengue, which we actually do pretty well. Whisked off for more photos. Oh, is that food?

I can't really comment much on the food, as I think I had only 5 finger foods for the duration of the night. My dips were apparently nice, but again, who has time to eat?? Luckily I didn't have any more of a chance to drink as I was actually 4 weeks and 3 days pregnant at the time... no wonder I was so tired the next day!

Glimpse of Jake. Big beaming intoxicated smile on face. Oops, lost him again.

Time for the fun stuff... quick speech to thank everyone for turning up and making it a wonderful night. We then did the awards for best dressed female and best dressed male... this was a bribe to make sure as many people as possible turned up in costume. The things we do! :) The awards went to Noelle and Alf.

Since I had Jake right next to me I decided that we were going to dance NOW! I mean, we did a full term of lessons just for this night and DAMMIT, I was getting my money's worth! Started dancing, got mobbed by some jealous women who had no-one to dance merengue with them (yes, I mean YOU Tamara, Abigail, Kook and Noelle!) Tamara and Noelle hit on a compromise and danced with each other, thanks guys, got some great photos of that!!! And no-one got any photos of Jake and I doing anything tricky, so you'll just have to take my word for it that we did more than dance up close and personal. ;)

Had a little drama with the catering staff, who decided to knock off early, so after some pleading and bullying we managed to get them to stay until their time was actually up. Not my fault if I'm told two different things, as far as I was concerned we were paying them for set hours and that's what they were doing. Hear me roar!

Party wound down, no idea what time it was, but I *think* it was 11ish? Had to get the place back in some semblance of order for when the caretaker turned up, thanks to everyone who stayed and helped out with that. Had LOTS of alcohol left... in fact, we STILL have some wine left over, as Jake and I don't drink wine!

All in all, we had a blast, in hindsight I would have made the start time a bit later as I felt like I was running to catch up all night, but many people have told us how much they enjoyed themselves so it must've been alright! BIG THANKS from me to Tamara and Kristie, would NOT have been able to cope without your help! Wedding next, but give me several years to recover from this one!
